Step 1 – Pack with the end in mind Mark every box clearly with the room it’s going to and a quick list of contents. Future you will thank present you when it’s time to unpack.
Step 2 – Create an essentials box Keep items you’ll need on day one — kettle, mugs, toiletries, phone chargers — in a clearly marked box or bin. This saves you from digging through piles later.
Step 3 – Keep similar items together When you unpack, it’s much easier if all your kitchen utensils, office supplies, or winter clothes are already grouped. Avoid mixing random items into the same box.
Step 4 – Don’t overfill A too‑heavy box slows you down at both ends. It’s harder to move out and harder to lift when placing it in its new spot.
Step 5 – Unpack strategically Start with the rooms you use most — kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. Getting those set up quickly makes the new space functional while you work through the rest.
